JOBNOB NETWORKING EVENT A HIT

by Lou Belle

Jobnob is not your typical recruiting event.  I had the opportunity to attend the Jobnob event in NYC on Tuesday, February 9th along with Brooke Allen and a few other NSoW members  (As discussed in greater detail in the last NSoW newsletter, Jobnob’s purpose is to connect job seekers to start-up firms).   As far as recruiting/networking events are concerned, this one seemed more effective than most and was well-organized. Read on for a brief summary of the event.

The event was comprised of roughly 50 companies and perhaps 200+ job seekers.  Of the 50 or so companies, 20 of these gave 1 minute presentations on what they do and what types of jobs they were looking to fill.  Essentially, this was a 2 hour networking event plus 30 minutes of presentations.

Most of the companies at the event had at least a few years of operating history, were funded and offering paid positions, and had real and immediate hiring needs.  There were no recruiters and few HR people.  For the most part this was a chance to speak to the CEO or senior managers directly.  The most common positions offered appeared to be at the mid- to senior-level and were from the following areas: programmer, software engineer/program manager, sales/business development, and product development.

If you missed the event and/or are not familiar with Jobnob I recommend that you take a closer look and try to make it the next time they’re in town.
