Correspondence with a wronged subscriber.

Here is a transcript of our correspondence with our subscriber who was rightly upset that Adrienne included her email address in a CC rather than a BCC.

— Subscriber Writes:

How dare you share my email address with other subscribers.

This was a personal subscription and I did not expect my information to be shared on any terms except my own.

— Adrienne, from NSoW writes to the subscriber to apologize and to promise not to ever do it again.

— Brooke from NSoW Writes:

Dear Subscriber,

I too wish to apologize for sending your email to fifteen other subscribers to our blog. The reason we’re trying to move away from having WordPress maintaining our mailing list to a professional service is precisely to prevent these kinds of inadvertent mistakes.

No Shortage of Work is a volunteer effort on the part of all of us; nobody makes money. Indeed, I spend considerable time and money on building this site, and yet have no intention of even giving advertisers access to our subscribers. My thesis is that we’re all in this together, and by treating each other with kindness and compassion, rich and poor, employed and unemployed, we can all get through hard times, and enrich each other’s lives during all times.

We have put considerable effort in weeding out bad eggs from our mailing list, and the results show. In the New York City area, there is an NSoW community forming, and it is gratifying to see people form bonds based on mutual, unselfish effort. Over time, we hope to be a catalyst for other people in other areas.

If any of the fifteen subscribers who received your mailing list abuse the information, please let us know. If you wish, I am happy to personally write to each of them and ask them to promise that they will not, and if they cannot bring themselves to make the commitment, then I’m happy to delete them from our subscriber list.

Adrienne is a good person, and she is trying very hard to do a good job at something she doesn’t even need to do at all.

I hope you find it in your heart to accept her apology.

Regards,

Brooke

Thanks.

It’s a relief to know that you take it seriously.  I have been very careful to ensure that my Gmail account is as free from spam as possible and this sort of thing jeopardizes it.

I definitely don’t need you to write to any of your other subscribers but I appreciate any efforts to ensure my privacy.
