Mentoring wanted
Looking for mentor in the web/graphic design business.
Details: I am looking for a mentor in the web design industry. I am a college student studying web and graphic design, and am unsure of my career path. If someone is willing to give me advice about the industry, how they got where they are, and any other advice they are willing to share, I would appreciate it. Willing to meet in person or over the phone/email.
Mentoring offered
I can teach you how to sell yourself.
Details: I have over 20 years experience in sales, I like to teach and I particularly love showing those who are not salespeople (and never want to be) how to better present themselves during an interview or business meeting. I could meet one-on-one, but I prefer to gather a group of people (6-10) together all at once. (One way I could start: I‘ll show you how to convince others to join with you in learning how to sell and market.)
Unpaid internship wanted
I can improve your web visibility.
Details: I have 15 years background in print media marketing and I now I need to become an expert in new media and search engine optimization. Do you own a small company and would you like me to improve your visibility on the web and up your rankings in search engines? I would like to help. You need not pay me, but if I do a good job, I‘d like a reference. You could be located anywhere; I can work remotely.
Unpaid internship offered
Assistant auto industry analyst.
Details: For nine years I was a leading Wall Street analyst for the auto industry. I was laid off a year ago at a time when there was little demand for such analysis, but now there is. I‘ve decided to begin issuing my newsletter privately and would like to take on one or two interns. You might have an interest in finance, writing, or perhaps you just love cars. I cannot pay but I am willing to teach you what I know, and we could look for work together as a team. We must be able to meet in person at least once a week.
Project help needed
Collaborators and sources for article on home businesses.
Details: I am writing an article for a major publication on establishing a business in your home during hard times and I am looking for one co-author who is an expert on entrepreneurship. I am also looking to interview people who started their own business in the last year (whether successfully or not), or provide services to small businesses (legal, accounting, marketing, etc.). This could be a good opportunity for publicity. We need not meet in person.
Project help offered
Let me help you build something (South-West USA, or Central America).
Details: Are you raising a barn, rebuilding after a natural disaster, providing housing for the poor, or even just expanding a factory? I am taking a semester off from college and am available from September 1 through December 15 to help you build something! I have spent one summer as an assistant to a carpenter, I have done extensive modification to my automobile, and I consider myself handy with tools. If you give me a place to sleep and feed me, I would like to work for you. P.S., I‘m a pretty good cook.
Meeting Announcement
Join our “information interviewing” network.
Details: Seven of us have been meeting regularly to help each other learn about the job market. We look for people who agree to meet with us for lunch or coffee. The goal is not to ask for a job (people don‘t like being pestered in this way), but rather to learn more about their work and industry. This has been a great way to expand our horizons, increase our network, be of help to others, and (in the case of two of us) land a job. We would like to grow to as many as 10 people, and we are very happy help you start your own group). We are meeting next in Philadelphia, PA on Wednesday at 6:30. Please write for details. (PS, If you are not near, we have prepared a small document (pdf) that describes how you might be able to do something like this in your area. Just ask, we‘ll send it.)
