New York Times reports on students paying finder’s fees to get unpaid internships
Here is a story from the NY Times that you might interest NSoW readers.

It may seem depressing, but perhaps NSoW is a good alternative for students who want to find internships on their own.
Hang out a sign – on yourself
A recently graduated young man was having no luck finding a job in London’s financial district.
After many months, his mother had had enough. She drove him to the railway station in an area where senior executive boarded the train. He stood with sign hanging from his neck:
“Career wanted. Please take a CV.”
Within a week he had obtained six interviews and shortly afterwards accepted a job with a leading investment bank
Even those people who looked at his sign and didn’t take a CV smiled at him, and to themselves. They appreciated the nerve of this young guy and it struck a chord deep within them. Some were overtly encouraging. At no time was he made to feel awkward. The whole experience was rewarding for everyone involved. His mother was pleased too!
NSoW Rooftop networking party was a hit
About 30 people attended for our first ever networking party. Pizza, fun, lasted about 3 hours. The rain cleared and the roof was beautiful. We’ll send you pictures and a write-up soon.
NSoW Blankets Security Industry and Financial Markets Trade Show (SIFMA)
Thirteen fellow NSoW members broke into small groups of two two or three and fanned out at the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association exhibitor hall. Between us, we visited all of the 330 or so vendors. The salespeople at SIFMA are among the most professional you will find anywhere, and as such, have an excellent “let’s make something happen” attitude. Dozens described job openings they have right now, and most understood our mission and were open to helping.
